Round Malta and Gozo
Name: Round Malta and Gozo
Start/Finish: Qala Square, Malta
Length: 126.7 miles / 204k
GPX: File
Description: This route circles two beautiful Mediterranean islands in one ride, circumnavigating a whole country through beautiful beaches, historic sites, fantastic marinas and traditional town squares. This is a circular route starting in a traditional village square where a super fast descent takes you to the ferry to the big island. Here we have a small scenic warm up before getting into the gradients with some beautiful hills and descents past traditional beach houses, along the sea and through country lanes. After this we pass all of the main tourist points on the East coast, including the capital city of Valletta with it's historic fortifications. The route then heads south to take in the iconic fishing towns of the south, the highest point of the country along the cliffs at Dingli and through the countryside of Mgarr to take us back to the ferry. After the ferry the route circumnavigates the smaller island of Gozo, taking in amazing views at Sanap cliffs and descending down to Dwerja which was made famous on screen in Game of Thrones. The route is backloaded with short, punchy hills before a beautiful, flowing road leads us back to the square of Qala for a coffee, pizza or beer, depending on your liking!
