Kattegattleden - southbound
Name: Kattegattleden - southbound

Locations- start and finish:
The start for the southbound version of Kattagattleden is located by the central train station of Gothenburg, Sweden.
And the finish is located by the central train station of Helsingborg, Sweden.

Distance: 390km or about 242 miles

GPX: GPX file for the southbound route is attached.

Description:  Kattegattleden – Sweden’s first national cycle route – was inaugurated on 6 June 2015 and is a 390km long cycle route with a unique, oceanside location.  Follow the red and white signs with the number 1 and you will find lots of memorable experiences along the way. The cycle route runs between Gothenburg in the north and Helsingborg in the south, all the way through Halland.

Kattegattleden offers cycling tourists a wealth of experiences – both big and small. You will bike through incredible coastal nature to beautiful sandy beaches and gorgeous viewpoints. The route will take you through picturesque fishing villages and charming towns. On your way, you’ll pass numerous historical sites and fascinating destinations that are all well worth visiting.

Hungry for a snack or a meal? A string of cafés and restaurants line the entire route. When you get tired, accommodation options abound – from camping and Bed & Breakfasts to hotels. There are many spa facilities along the coast where you can find relief for aching joints and muscles, or simply relax and enjoy yourself.

The route is safe and secure, mostly on cycle paths and roads with little traffic. The traffic safety criteria come from the Swedish Transport Administration’s quality criteria for a national cycle route, where traffic safety is assessed according to the categories of green, yellow and red standards.
  • Around 56% of the route travels along a cycle path that is completely separated from the road.
  • Other stretches, around 44%, are in mixed traffic.
  • Around 40% of these are categorized as green or yellow according to the Swedish Transport Administration’s classification.
  • Red stretches account for approximately 3%, or around 12 km (a national tourist cycle route is not permitted to have more than 10% red stretches).
