Highline Trail

Name:
Highline Trail
Route: Highline National Recreation Trail
Start: Two-sixty trailhead
End: AZT Pine trailhead
Length: 65 miles
GPX: attached

Description:   From the USFS website:  The Highline Trail runs essentially East to West, below the Mogollon Rim and roughly following it. Users will experience beautiful vistas of rim canyons, brushy hills, and distant mountains, unique rock formations, and wonderful stands of Ponderosa Pine. The Highline Trail, established in 1870, was used to travel between homesteads and to attend school in Pine. Zane Grey and Babe Haught used the Highline Trail while hunting....In 2022, a substantial commitment was made to the Highline by the Payson Ranger District, and sections have been rerouted a rebuilt for sustainability and to enhance the user experience.

The Highline is 99+% rideable blue to black, for 65 miles, with views almost the entire time, crossing more than a half dozen perennial streams. You see springs, red rocks, mountains, cliffs, big trees, elk, and so much more. Over the last 3 years, the whole trail has been restored or rerouted, with machines, to make it a joy to ride.
