Haute Route - Chamonix Zermatt MTB

Name:  Haute Route - Chamonix Zermatt MTB
Start- Chamonix, France
Finish -  Zermatt (passing through Champex - Col des Mines - Mont Rouge - Col de Torrent - Meidpass - Augstbordpass)
Length:  150 miles
GPX: File

Description: Route inspired by the traditional Haute Route between Chamonix and Zermatt (skiing in Winter and hiking in Summer). Adapted to MTB trails (Enduro), the route passes through some the most beautiful alpine passes and trails of the Swiss Valais.
Starting from Chamonix, you will cross the Swiss border by taking some of the famous Tour du Mont Blanc route. Then you will pass through Verbier, capital of MTB in Valais. You will then cycle along the famous Bisses of the Valais (old irrigation systems), beautiful but sometimes tricky to ride. After riding through the Val D'Hérémence and Val D'Hérens, you will face 3 major passes culminating at 2800-2900m. While the Col de Torrent is steep but rideable, the Meidpass and Augstbordpass are very rocky and technical. You will then ride all the way down to St Nicklaus and follow the valley to Zermatt.

Warning: some sections can be quite technical and exposed. Make sure you have the right gear as well as the technical level to ride rocky terrain and exposed ridges. Some hike-a-bike is to be expected, as it is often the case in the area. The breathtaking scenery is definitely worth the effort.
