Description: This route is a counter-clockwise route, to take advantage of the prevailing winds, and encircles all but the western parts of the state. The coastal area around Marbella to the west is notoriously bad for cyclists, so I cut that section out. The route passed through many, many gorgeous small villages, multiple protected park areas, and a couple of stunning cities. The variety of terrain is stunning, from vast wheat fields to dense cork forests and everything in between. You can stay in hotels and hostels, but there are endless places to camp and more than enough places to resupply. The Spanish people adore their cycling, and there were hundreds of amazing interactions with the locals. While this route is rideable year-round, the summers can be hot- avoid July/August if you are not a fan of the heat.
